Case Studies

Citynet has had success with both large and small customers providing retail telecommunications services. As an example of a large customer, Citynet has created a substantial supplier relationship with a multi-state bank holding company head-quartered in West Virginia.

Case Study #1 - Large Customer
The bank operates 90+ banking offices in the state of West Virginia, Ohio and Pennsylvania. In addition, it operates an insurance company, a full service broker/dealer, and a discount brokerage operation.

Telecommunication Strategy
Before the Citynet solution, the customer was using three vendors to transport data across their multi-state platform. The customer was utilizing a T-1 Frame Relay service with a Committed Information Rate of 128 kb into all locations. At the customer's two main data centers, the customer utilized a T-1 with a 768 kb CIR to handle all of the Frame Relay traffic. The head-in location was also the facility where two Internet T-1s were dropped to provide Internet Access throughout their Wide Area Network.

Problems:
  • Speed of the Network
  • Multiple Vendors
  • High Price from a lack of economy of scale

    Solution:
Create pods within Citynet's IXC network at its Local Serving Offices. Frame all customers served out of LSOs to a DS-3 on the long-haul network and transport that data to the data centers.

The network access more than quadrupled in the solution and saved the customer approximately 30% of the network cost per month.

Case Study #2 - Small Customer
A typical small business scenario is represented by a company that utilizes 10 business lines and 1000 minutes of monthly long distance, has a web site, e-mail and Internet access. This Tier 2/Tier 3 customer typically does not have a choice in selecting a single source for these services; often times, a customer will have to utilize 3 or 4 vendors to provide the solutions, so the bundling offered by iTone has met with wide acceptance. The customer would likely have been paying a premium for receiving these services from multiple vendors, and the integrated solution that Citynet provides gives the customer a single line for all of the services at a 25% - 40% price advantage. Additionally, the single-source approach simplifies troubleshooting and creates a "stickier" customer structure.
