Citynet, as part of giving back to the communities in which it serves, through the company's Citynet Cares initiative, offers its online grading solution, LiveGrades, free to any West Virginia school.
Citynet purchases the old United Federal Credit Union in Star City, and after extensive renovations, moves into its new Citynet Morgantown Office, located at 3600 University Avenue, Morgantown, WV 26505.
Citynet moves into its new, custom-built headquarters, located at 100 Citynet Drive, in Bridgeport, WV. The new building includes a state-of-the-art Data Center.
In late 2009, the Customer Service Institute of America and the International Council of Customer Service Organizations awards Citynet’s Technical Support Center with the 2009 International Service Excellence Award.
In early 2008, Citynet sells the Citynet Wholesale Division to Zayo Broadband. This sale allows Citynet to concentrate on growing its core business of being “the provider of choice in integrated communication services”.
In late 2008, due to the growth of business it is conducting in the area, Citynet purchases its own building for its Charleston, WV Network Operations & Data Center.
Citynet is selected as Business of the Year by the Harrison County Chamber of Commerce. In order to become the first West Virginia based “full service” provider of telecommunications and IT services, Citynet completes the purchase of Morgantown based Veritech. This acquisition allows Citynet to provide additional services such as IT Managed Network Services, Network monitoring, and computer repair.
Citynet Retail Division begins offering Residential Digital telephone service.
Citynet grows from a base of 30 to over 175 employees. Products and services provided grow from dial-up Internet and Web site hosting and design to providing much of West Virginia with state-of-the-art communications services. Late in 2005, Citynet Retail Division begins offering Digital (VoIP) business telephone service.
Citynet invests over $50 million to make strategic acquisitions of Gateway Columbus (Columbus, OH); multiple Adelphia Business Solutions services communities; America’s Fiber Network (formerly owned by six telecommunications and utility companies, including American Electric Power and Allegheny Energy). Upon integration of these new assets, Citynet begins to operate with two distinct divisions — Wholesale and Retail. The Citynet Wholesale Division is created to operate this new fiber infrastructure. The original business unit then becomes Citynet’s Retail Division.
In April 2001, City Holding sold Citynet to Citynet LLC, a company formed as a partnership with Jim Martin, Parry Petroplus, Steve Lorenz, and Milan Puskar. Mr. Martin becomes President/CEO of the new venture.
City Holding (owner of City National Bank) purchases both Citynet and MarCom and begins online banking. Mr. Martin becomes President of this new venture for City National Bank. Customer accounts increase from 6,000 to 20,000 over the next 3+ years management.
Citynet purchases the Internet dial-up subscribers of MarCom so that MarCom can focus on Web site development.
Both Citynet and MarCom start in business as two separate companies. MarCom is founded by Jim Martin. Citynet is owned by a Venture Capital firm in Charleston, WV. Both serve as local/regional ISPs (Internet Service Providers) and provide dial-up access and Web site development. Martin’s company, MarCom provides service in North Central WV, while Citynet serves the Kanawha County area.
