Create a new Dial-Up Connection

These instructions can be used either for your first setup or to replace a Dial-Up that has become faulty or corrupt. In order to rebuild your connection you should have deleted the previous one already, to learn how Click Here.

  1. Click the START button.
  2. Click on the word Run
  3. In the white box type ICWCONN1
  4. Click the "OK" button



Internet Connection Wizard:
Here you will see the three options for how you wish to setup your Internet Connection.
You want to select the third option:

"I want to setup my Internet Connection Manually"

Now the Wizard is asking you how you connect to the Internet, you want the first option:

"I connect through a phone line and a modem". Click the "Next" button

Now the Wizard needs you to enter the phone number that you will be dialing to connect.

  1. First you must remove the check mark in: "Dial using Area Code and Country Code"
  2. Reference the nearest phone number and enter it in the box provided.
  3. Click the "Next" button at the bottom.

On your Configuration Page that was included with your welcome packet, you will see a section labeled "Dial-Up Accounts" under this section will be a login username and a password. You will enter that information on this screen. The Username will always begin with a "q" or a "p".

  1. Enter your Username and Password exactly as they are on your Confidential Information sheet.

  2. Click the "Next" button at the bottom.

Now you need to delete all the text in this box and rename it. If this is your first time setting it up, change the name to Citynet. If you have deleted an old Dial-up Connection and are rebuilding it, name it something different than the previous (i.e. Citynet2).

Setting up your Internet Mail Account

The Internet Connection Wizard will now go through the steps to setup your email accounts. If you want to set them up now, select "Yes".If you have already setup your email accounts and are simply rebuilding your connection, select "No".

  1. Click the "Next" button at the bottom.

If you are entering an additional email account, you should have the top option selected that reads: Create a New Internet Mail Account.

(NOTE: If you are setting up your first Internet Account, this step will not show up, just ignore this page and go to the next step.)

  1. Click the "Next" button at the bottom.

This section is where you enter your Display Name. This is the name that the recipients of your emails will see instead of your Email Address. Use capital letters for first and last names.

  1. Click the "Next" button at the bottom.

  1. Type in your email address exactly as you see it on your Configuration Sheet.
    (NOTE: Use the exact lettering that is found on your Configuration Sheet.)
  2. Click the "Next" button at the bottom.

  1. Type in the following information exactly as it appears on your Configuration Sheet. You must use ALL lower case letters.
  2. The Incoming Mail Server is pop3.citynet.net.
  3. The Outgoing Mail Server is smtp.citynet.net.
  4. Both of these must be entered in lowercase letters and spelled exactly the same.
  5. Click The "Next" button at the bottom.

Now the Wizard is asking for your Account name and password for your email account. This appears on your Configuration Sheet under the heading "Email Accounts".This account name is called "Mailbox/Forward" and prior to it is the Password. Your email account name will always begin with an "e", a "ppp", a "wv", a "bx", or a "cx". (NOTE: ppp, e, and wv are only used by some of our older accounts. bx is also only used for accounts dating before March, 2001)

  1. Click the "Next" button at the bottom.
  2. Remove check mark to Connect Immediately.
  3. Click the "Finish" button at the bottom and you are done.
